"Piano’s keyboard acts as its interface, much like the user input fields of AI tools"? So the wood is stolen? Built with unpaid labor? The keys are ivory from endangered elephants, taken against local laws?

A piano is neutral and a musician can play Bach or Batiste or whatever comes out of their fingertips. AI is not neutral. AI-as-piano can only play regurgitated music stolen from composers.

Sorry Reed, this analogy is scary.

Thank you for bringing those points up! And you make a good point, that piano keys used to be made with ivory (although that was not the exclusive material of the past, people tend to exaggerate that part).

I agree mostly with your point about AI regurgitating others' materials. However, in the field of art there are plenty of examples of AI tools not breaking copyright. For example, several artists have trained AI solely on their own works and used them to create new ones. Jon Ippolito would be an excellent resource to learn about that type of AI use, and I am reaching out to him to see if I can get a link to his webinar on this topic to post here.
